The J's Anniversary Hits: Stilts Calatagan

6:44 PM

It's been two and a half months since our second wedding anniversary. I am just writing about this today because a lot of things happened to our family the past couple of months. Not to mention my pregnancy that causes so much laziness. It's mostly my laziness, I guess. Haha!

For our second anniversary, we decided that we will just go somewhere near because both Jeff and I are worried that traveling might not be very healthy for me and Taglet. He suggested we go to Stilts in Calatagan because he's been there for a company outing. I visited their website and the place looked nice, so I said yes.

Our anniversary falls on Easter Sunday this year, so we decided to travel a few days earlier. We left early morning of April 14. According to Google Maps, Calatagan is 123 kilometers from the house and about two-hour drive. We took the Tagaytay-Nasugbu Road before turning left to Calatagan. Here's the map from their website.

It was actually easier for us when we followed Google Maps, so just use your phone. ;)

We arrived at the resort around lunch. We were led to our kubo after verification of the reservation. BTW, while we were checking in, Jeff noticed a group of kids delivering fresh sea urchins or uni. Of course he had to ask. Jeff is sooooo addicted to uni. He never fails to order some when we visit Japanese restaurants. Apparently, these kids dive to get uni for the front desk personnel because she has goiter. Jeff asked how much is the charge for it and the front desk people said he just needs to pay any amount to the divers. So you know what happened next. He had to order his own bowl of uni.

This was what the fresh uni looked like. Jeff said it tastes sweet because it's very fresh, and salty because of the sea water. I still don't think it looks yummy. Haha!

Okay, back to our kubo. Here are some photos of our home for the next two days. The normal rate for this kubo is P6,500 per night, but because Jeff is an Ayala Land employee, they are entitled to a 10% discount.

Stilts Calatagan is also day tour friendly and they have a lot of open cottages in front of the beach. I am not sure about their day tour rates, though. You can call them if you are interested.

Open cottage just outside our kubo

The kubo is air conditioned. Thank goodness, because Jeff can't sleep without aircon haha! The toilet and shower are separated by a concrete wall. There's a bed for two, table and chairs. There's ref, too! But there's no TV inside the kubo.

We went to their dining area after we've settled in. My little tummy tenant has been bugging me for hours before we arrived. The dining hall was about five minutes away from our kubo. We took the car because I didn't want to walk. Because I am a brat like that. Heehee. We don't have photos of the food that we ordered. We were famished and the first thing we thought of doing when the food was served was eat it. Order their Filipino food selection. They're really yummy!

Al fresco dining!

We roamed around the resort afterwards and decided to swim in the pool. They have a kid's pool as well for your little ones.

The best thing about our kubo is the great view of sunset. It was a bit cloudy on our first day, so we weren't able to see the sunset. The next day however was very clear, and the sunset was awesome. Not as great as Manila Bay's or Boracay, but it's still awesome. These are my favorites among the many sunset photos I've taken that day.

Have you ever thought why they call the place "Stilts"? Because of these:

They have cottages on STILTS! But they're quite expensive. Hehe. You can check out their website for rates.

Lastly, other than staring at the sea (which is very satisfying for me), you can actually do something else in Stilts. You can rent a bike or an ATV and drive around the resort. Still, I have no idea about the prices. I wanted to ride the ATV but Jeff was very strict as I was just 16 weeks at that time. You can also visit their organic green garden and buy some vegetables. We bought eggplants and camote tops which we brought home. They are really cheap! Just ask the front desk about it and they'll gladly help you.
